Attorney Referrals and Local Counsel Opportunities
A high percentage of our practice, historically, has been based upon referrals and direct employment by other attorneys, due to conflicts or their lack of comfort in the subject matter or in trial work. We greatly appreciate those relationships and are sensitive to maintaining the confidence these attorneys have in us.I. REFERRING ATTORNEYS
Miller & Fisher, LLC, concentrates its practice on dispute resolution and avoidance. We respect the pre-existing relationship between referring attorneys and their clients. We encourage referring counsel to remain involved in the dispute resolution process and, where the client permits us to do so, we include referring counsel in status and progress reports.II. CO-COUNSEL RELATIONSHIPS and WORK WITH IN-HOUSE COUNSEL
One of the characteristics of Miller & Fisher, LLC, is our willingness and desire to work in cooperation with co-counsel and in-house counsel in solving our mutual clients’ problems. We bring a depth of experience and knowledge of the process of dispute avoidance and resolution, by settlement or by trial, but we recognize that our abilities and our perspective are only a part of the picture. We work closely with in-house counsel to make sure that we understand the business context in which the dispute arises, and we respect in-house counsel’s broader perspective and relationship with the client.III. LOCAL COUNSEL
In order to be allowed to participate as an attorney in state and federal court proceedings in the state of Indiana, the attorney must be admitted to practice in that court. The partners at Miller & Fisher, LLC, are members of the Bar and admitted to practice in all trial and appellate courts in Indiana, including the federal courts in both the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, and the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals located in Chicago. We have first-chair experience in each of these venues.
Miller & Fisher, LLC, is a certified WBE (Women's Business Enterprise). Our employment as local counsel can contribute to diversity goals. The partners at Miller & Fisher, LLC, are among the most experienced litigators in both state and federal courts in the state of Indiana.
It is efficient to have national counsel litigate, or prepare for litigation, similar issues throughout a region or throughout the country, with temporary admission for that purpose. The efficiency of national counsel at trial, or in directing certain aspects of the litigation, can be significantly enhanced when local counsel are capable of independently handling aspects of discovery and motion practice that can be handled locally. Local counsel with extensive first-chair trial experience can greatly ease the trial responsibilities and burden of national counsel, as well as provide knowledge of the law of the state and the forum, and advice concerning the preferences and predilections of local juries and judges. We are capable of taking the lead at trial, supporting the lead, or playing any part in the team effort. As experienced trial counsel, we are able to provide assistance as local counsel in the evaluation of claims for settlement purposes, based upon our knowledge and feel for jury attitudes and verdicts in the local forums. Because of our depth and breadth of first-chair trial experience in sophisticated matters, Miller & Fisher, LLC, adds a substantive component to the procedural and logistical support provided by local counsel.CONTACTING OUR LAW OFFICES
